Derek Abeyta represents clients in a variety of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, various litigation matters, USPTO proceedings, and IP licensing.
Derek's practice focuses primarily on electrical and computer science-based technologies, medical devices involving electrical components, and clean energy.
Derek earned his J.D. from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, in May 2017. During law school, Derek was an editor and writer for the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law, co-founder of the Arizona Law Journal of Emerging Technologies, and president of the Arizona Intellectual Property and Cyberlaw Society.
Before law school, Derek worked as a control systems engineer and project engineer for Honeywell Aerospace. There, he designed and implemented control logic for Auxiliary Power Unit aircraft engines, as well as designed mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical valves, for various aircraft applications. Derek earned his B.S.E. in electrical engineering from Arizona State University, in 2012, with an emphasis in electric power and energy systems.
