Sam graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. While an undergraduate, he worked as a technician for an aircraft-component manufacturer and as a product designer.

Sam received his Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor of the George Washington Law Review and as a Dean’s Fellow for the first-year Legal Research and Writing course. Upon graduation, Sam received the Chris Bartok Memorial Award for excellence in the study of patent law.
